bets woke up last night at midnight crying and i went in to find she'd pooped and had a really red, raised and sore diaper rash. i think she pooped before she fell asleep at 9pm and then it just sat there for 3 hours. ew.

my question is this: are there certain foods that cause/exacerbate a diaper rash? i can't seem to find much online about this. is it the acidic stuff? like craisins maybe? or mandarin oranges? other possible culprits include raisins, pizza, strawberries, canned carrots, honey smacks.........?

the rash is lingering and i'd like to cut out whatever initiated it...at least for a couple days. any ideas?

  1. I don't know what foods cause it but triple paste medicated ointment is great at clearing it up. It is expensive but I highly recommend it.

  2. Sometimes if it doesn't clear up it is because it is a fungal rash. In that case you need a anti fungal prescription ointment and use it along with Desitin. We have a bunch. Let me know if you want it. Camille has had several knarly rashes. It is made worse by stuff like craisens.-Jessica Smith

  3. My kids had issues when they were little when they ate pineapple, oranges, etc. Horrible diaper rash! Nothing a little Burt's Bees couldn't fix.

  4. I agree with Jessica, if it's caused by fungus nothing will work short of prescription ointment. On the bright side it came on suddenly..usually with fungus there is already a rash, then the big rash invades!

  5. Bridget always gets a severe diaper rash when she eats mandarin oranges from the can. We can always identify that it is the culprit since there are always remnants in her poo. We try to keep her from eating too much citrus for this very reason.
