photo class

in summation.

here's what i've learned about myself so far. there are like a gazillion variables that must be considered when taking pictures in manual mode. here are a few: lighting, aperature openness(if that's a word), placement of subjects within a frame, depth of field, focus, lighting, did i mention LIGHTING, correct exposure, shutter speed, and SO many more.....

if i get two-thirds of these variables CLOSE to where i want them to be, i consider myself lucky. the outward manifestation (i really want to use the word "phenotype" here. using restraint.) of two-thirds happy variables is this: plain old BAD PICTURES. that's right. i suck. and now....a concrete detail to support my thesis:

so so ALMOST cute, right? but i WAY overexposed the part where the strong sun is hitting the back of my dad's white shirt, so i tried to salvage it by making it a black and white...to no avail. dale just looks like some kind of middle-aged man-angel. sorry pop pops.

i told greg on like our first date that...well.....i'm kinda "good at stuff". i can fake my way through most any sport, topic of conversation, craft, game, i can bake a cake, blahblah....you get the idea....i pick things up pretty quickly....i'm good at stuff. well, i've changed. i believe i have met my match. photography hates me. but as a famous gay cowboy once said, "i can't quit you" or something like that. the point is i'm not giving up, and by-golly i WILL conquer the ever elusive quality photograph. i'm determined.

  1. This is where you learn the beauty of shooting in raw becuase you can pretty much fix what you screwed up and not feel like a total failure. Not a professional either and I'm sure that your teacher would totally hate me for even suggesting you "settle" with raw, but it helps me embrace my suckiness in photography!

  2. Not that it matters what I think, but I think it looks pretty cool and the pic in your last post is AWESOME! And last but not least, I would say that you have a GREAT (not any of this so-so stuff) sense of humor. Now that is something that can rarely be learned (i.e. you are a natural)...shoot, ask my husband. :)
